I just bought a F-350 with the 7.3L Diesel. It came with a BD Torq Loc and a BD Retarded switch. I think I understand the exhaust brake and torq loc function but the retarded switch has me puzzled. Anyone know what this does and when I should use it?

A Retarded switch?? Hmmm it must turn your Ford into a Chevrolet
There is documentation about how to install the thing but not what it does. Aparently it is part of this power system from BD that includes some tranny mods and exhaust brake
It probably has to do with an exhuast brake. They use the term "retard horsepower" on their website talking about exhuast brakes, so that could be it. You could also try callin' em.
I have never heard of a engine retarder for a 7.3 I wanted one for my 2000 F350 but I could not get any answers on that issue. So if any one knows any thing about it please speak up so I can buy one for my truck.
If it's what I'm thinking it is, it's like a jake brake on a semi tractor, it uses the compression in the cylinders and back pressure from the exhaust to slow down the semi, instead of using the brakes. So instead of braking to slow down, you can flip the switch and use your "retarded" switch to turn on your exhaust brake, slowing your truck down. It'll help your brakes last a lot longer. And on the big rigs, it just sounds cool!!
