I know I read in here in the past that the overhead console is not accurate for the diesel engines for the amount of deisel left or for the km ratings. But the temperature and the compass do work. Ok! Whatever. I find my diesel (gas) gauge dial, not console, is very inaccurate. It seems it "floats" between 1/4 to 1/2 tank difference. I find that to be quite a big difference especially when u are down to the last quarter! Now is this a normal diesel engine (mal)function or is this a problem with my gauge? I have had it checked with the dealership and they claim there is no problem with it. Sometimes I will start the truck and for the first few kilometers it will read just under a half tank and then within minutes (maybe 10) the reading will suddenly be under a 1/4 tank and then the light is on. Anyone else have this? Of course the trick is to never run low - but some days I have a problem telling what is low!! Thanks for any help u can share. Patti
Do you only have one tank or do you have two. And does it do this with both tanks. Though the guages on Fords will be somewhat off, this is not normal. I would start by replacing the volatge regulator located behind the instrument panel. It has a contact like a 9 volt battery for a portable radio. This more than likely is the cause of the fluctations of the guage.
The difference with others is that the gauge will read more like this. Between full and a 3/4 is more like full to 1/2. Then the guage will go down to empty when it is empty. Every Ford truck I have ever owned is like this. In our business we have had over 20 trucks all simular.
I find that my gauge is not accurate also... I have a 2003 7.3 ltr. I find that when my fuel light comes on I can only get about 80-85 ltrs in a 110 ltr. tank... I was wondering the same thing... Can I fix it ?? or do I just live with it and guess how much further can I go on a tank ?? Could it be a bad sending unit at the tank ???
I guess I'll just carry an extra tank of fuel on board until I find out !!!
