Front timing cover problem

I have a 1986 f150 with a 351w. I developed an antifreeze leak in the front cover, it was at the top above the passage from the water pump to the block on the passenger side. When I got the timing cover off it was pitted in this area all the way thru. Not real deep, but enough to leak. My question is where can I get a new timing cover and any idea the cost. The cheapy parts stores can't get one, not even special ordered. And also is there a casting flaw in the aluminum that is common or is this an isolated difference. I would think if it was common I would have heard about it given all the trucks and stangs running around with this family of engines. Oh yeah, this truck has been in my family since new, so this is not the result of damage from a previous rebuild, neglect, or abuse to the engine. Thanx

The reason these go bad is because of galvanic corrosion between the cast iron block and aluminum front cover. The aluminum is the sacrificial metal. Junk yard parts probably have some degree of this problem already starting. I believe Speedway Motors had a deal on these parts. If I remember right, price was less than $100. Speedway Motors is a huge mail order parts outfit in Lincoln Nebraska. I have dealt with them and they are a very reputable outfit. I imagine they have an on line catalog, but don't know for sure. When you reassemble your engine, use a "neverseize" product .
