I was looking in Acme Truck parts catalog and I saw that they had a headliner console that had a place for a stereo and had a coupla speakers, woofers, and tweeters. "Wow, that would be perfect for my truck," thought I. However, my truck is a '72 F100. This particular item only worked with Ford's '73 and up.
Have any of you seen one of these (or similar) that works for our models? Or, does anyone know if there is any way to make this one work for my model?
I was too until I read some of the problems with it. The main one (to me) is the plastic doesn't breathe and traps moisture. In a couple years your cab roof will start rusting from the inside out. Other problems were poor fitment and finish.
Psyco72,
I have an overhead console and I love it. I'm not sure if mine is similar to the one in ACME, I bought mine from JC Whitney. As far as finish, it looks very good. In regard to the fit, I had to drill all my own holes which was no big deal. BB has an interesting point that I'm going to have to check into. It may or may not rust under there. When I took out the stock one, there was already a thin layer of surface rust, so I need to find out if this is going to accelerate that. Thanks for the tip BB. My only complaint is that the speakers that were supplied with the Overhead console sound like the old transistor radios they used to have when we were kids. I'll snap a piture and post it.
