97 f250 LD....4.6 v8.....my a/c worked fine up until about a week ago....all of a sudden i dont have any air.....the compressor clutch is not spinning in the a/c mode....i jumped the cycling switch and it still won't spin.....the lowside is showing about 100 psi, so i can't charge it until the compressor turns....any thoughts??? i'm not sure if it's electrical or just low?? i was under the assumption that regardless of the refrigerant level if the switch was jumped it would kick on the compressor....it also appears that i dont have any power at the cycling switch...i'm guessing it should show 12 volts on that two wire harness where it connects to the switch??
with the switches jumped it should run, if there is 100 psi on the lowside there should be no need for charging. try connecting 12 volts to the compressor clutch and see if it works then, and if it doesn't that could indicate a burnt out clutch, and if it works your problem could be the switches.
Is it possible to replace the clutch without pulling the compressor? What all is involved? (There are some things I really wish Chilton/Haynes wouldn't have omitted)
My clutch has been making a noise when engaged for a while now and had not been cooling too good. Yesterday the AC went hot and I had to roll down the windows. I turned it on and off a few times and I guess it kicked back in and it seemed to be colder that I can remember! I think that my clutch is worn and wanted to know if it could be rebuilt! I think this is ubermich's problem too!
