FE F700 Question

I have a 72 F700 Dump truck. It has a FE engine in it. Does anyone know what cubic inch FE Block Ford usually put in a truck like this?

Thanks
Mark

Probably and FT engine, looks similar to an FE but has it's differences. The guys can correct me but I would venture to say it's probably a 361ci. Take a look at the VIN number on the drivers door and post it, maybe we can sort it out for you.

If you look at the 5th digit of the VIN we can identify it for you.

Yep, you're right, 5th digit is for cars, 4th digit is for trucks. My bad.

E is for a FT 361 2V engine.

I'm confused now because the engine I have in there has a 4 barrel carb. on it and the intake looks original.

Thanks

Yup, my Motor's says "E" Is a 2bbl 361.

In '72, the only 4bbl FT was the 391

Since it looks original, any chance there's the aluminum tag bolted to the intake? That would tell you...

Mark:
Sounds like it's time to pull the #1 and #4 plugs and check the stroke....

Possibly sometime in it's 32 year history someone put a cast 4-barrel and carb on it, or swapped the 391 in. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

I looked and couldn't find a tag. Who knows what could have happened in the past. The engine is all gunked up with grease that now looks like tar, so if anyone changed stuff out, it was a long time ago. I has a Holley on it, but it looks like original equipment because it has all the manual chock and throttle cable hooked up. I guess you can pull the throttle cable if you want to keep the RPMs up while operating the dump bed. By the way, what do you mean by pulling #1 and #4 plugs? Can't I just pull one plug and measure the stoke with something while turning the engine over?

Thanks
Mark

When you pull the #1 and #4 and the engine is a top dead center with #1 at tdc, #4 will be at bottom dead center, so you just measure the difference. I'd think it would be more accurrate because it might be hard to find bottom dead center when cranking it...
