gear shift indicator not correct

gear shift indicator not correct

have auto transmission on f 250 superduty, 1999, what do I have to do to get to indicate correct position. Drive shows 2nd gear for example. Wanting to see if I can fix myself.

remove lower dash panel
move shifter and you will see a string attached to
the shift column
there should be a screw holding it in place
you can adjust it at that point
