The 40 will sound better... but neither will give you noticeable improvement in either power or mpg.

Spend 600 bucks and get a full bassani system with a 40 or a 50 and then you'll see a huge improvement in both.

i recently ordered a magnum glasspack and when to put it on and it sounds like **** compared to my flowmaster 40 series orginal flows. I now have no muffler which i like how it sounds. I am going to put my flow back on when i get my cats replaced so then i can actually get some sound out of my bronco.

the orginal catalytic converter system must take away all of the sound. I have a friend that put a 40 series on his 2 different trucks and they sounded so much louder and stronger than my truck.. i mean so extremely better in sound in which i can hardly compare between his trucks and my bronco

i put a straight pipe on my 302 and the orginall catalytic converter system does take away a lot of sound. it sounds good but still would like it a little more louder than what it is. i do have a k&n filter for a little bit more air flow.

ive been kicking this question around for a bit too. i was leaning on glasspacks, but i hear that they start to sound like crap.

i have a 351m with headers and true dual exhaust, and no Cat.

would a 40 series sound best? im not gonna spend 600 bucks on exhaust, theres a lot better places to spend 600 on.

im just not sure what would give me that deep rumble, and loud powerful sound on acceleration.

as it is right now, its really quiet at idle, and has a beefy sound when i accelerate hard, otherwise it sounds like a stock V-6.

I agree with 40 series. I have that on mine and I love it. The cats do absorb a ton of the sound. I know a lot of people with other trucks with the same muffler have a lot more of that "Flowmaster tone" that I love. I'm going to go with the catless Bassani Y-pipe and hopefully that will open her up.

Go with the flowmaster 40 series. The glasspack mufflers may be louder but they have a choppy uneven sound that just ends up sounding cheap and bad. The flowmasters may not be quite as loud (still they are very loud though) but they have that performance sound, kinda like the old muscle cars.

i was told that they have to put on 2 cats because it has to match stock or it will not pass emissions

Glasspacks get obnoxious. I've got them on the '68 and am shopping around for a quieter replacement. The 40s sound good but sure are expensive. The glasspacks were a lot neater when I was in high school; they're not so cool now that I've become a cranky conservative homeowner myself.
