What type of oil is recommended in a '87 Ford 6.9 diesel? Have no manuel or see no info on any engine sticker. It seems like the 15W40 or 50 I see in the stores for diesel engines would be the right stuff. I noticed not all engine oils have the "C" designation(for diesels) on the back of the container. Is this something they should all have? Do I use something different for winter? It seems like a 15W weight would be too heavy for colder weather. Thanks, in advance, for all replies.
You want the C diesel designation on your oil.
The extra cleaners to keep the soot under control are needed.
That is why diesel oil is always so black.
When it is very cold out you may want to run 5W30 or something a little thinner than 15W40.
