Im replacing my fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump on a 64 f-100. I dont necessarily want to use steel line like it had. What are my options? Where can I find them?
Don't use copper because it can work-harden and then crack.
Most people use steel brake line. But you can use rubber fuel line all the way. Any auto-parts store.
Don't use more than 1 foot of rubber in the whole system. Rubber cracks and leaks after time. Use steel or ABS plastic like ford did in early Bronco's. I like steel the best, it's easy to make and if you paint it it last longer then i need.
One way to improve the longevity of your steel lines is to keep the tank full of fuel.
If your tank is always 1/4 to half full, the moisture inside the tank will condense in the evenings and cause water to settle to the bottom of your tank. Tthe continual sloshing of the fuel during driving will pull this moisture into the fuel lines. It will pool in the low spots of the lines at rest and start corrosion.
This is the most common reason for pin holes in fuel and brake lines.
44dwarf,
I've had the aluminum running through rubber coated p-clamps for 5 years. I haven't had any problem but I guess work hardening could be an issue. Got a new tank and will be switching to braided line anyway. Boy that AN- stuff is high!
