I have an 89 f150 4x4 rc w/ 302, T18, and 163k mi. When u start the truck all the lights on the dash are supposed to turn on for a second and then shut off. Well that happens with me except my e-brake and my rear antilock light stay on. I just bought this truck in March, and this just started happening.
Also, when I've been driving for a while and I come to a stop, while my truck is idling the red engine light turns on, and as that turns on my oil pressure gauge goes down. As soon as I rev it up to like 900 rpms everything goes back to normal.
Try pulling codes from the system. Mine did the same thing for the ABS. Inspected the mechanical side of it, all was fine and found the RABS controller fried. I am putting a 9" under mine soon, so I just disconnected the RABS and lights went out. Also, low fluid level in reservoir will turn these 2 lights on.
As far as your oil pressure, you need to check it with a direct reading guage to see actual pressure. The needle is just a visual "idiot" light and does not give true oil pressure. If pressure is good, I'd try replacing the sending unit first.
I've got 163,000 miles and it's been in a front end collision so I guess these sorta things are expected. I bought it for $1100, it's a daily driver that I want to lift 6" and put on some 38" mickey thompsons, rebuild the motor, port and polish the heads and maybe put a performance cam in. But first I gotta get all the little bugs worked outta her before I do anything.
Anyone else wanna shed some light on this for me?
