shifter gets stuck
Hi,
I bought a '96 manual 4WD 2 door explorer last year.
The shifter "hang up" 20% of the time when I come to a stop and try to downshift to 1st or 2nd. Especially true after warmed up.
I have to turn off engine, then shift into 1st, and re-start.
Sometimes I can play with stick awhile and find the 3rd to 4th "path" and then go ever so slightly left to get into the 1st gear path forward.
I took the problem to a local tran shop last year and they decided to replace the clutch, throwout, and slave (from Luk) and master cylinders for me at cost of $900.
The problem was the same the day after I picked up my explorer. Returns to the shop with Mercon synthetic ATF changes and cleaning additives have made no change in 9 months.
Would you expect the shop to redo the job at no charge now before the LUK warranty runs out.
