So, after reading MANY posts here, I believe that my P0401 code is being created by a faulty DPFE in my 2000 2.5L Ranger (64k miles). So...I've identified the DPFE, had a few words with it, taken out the bolts, BUT I can't figure out how to get the hoses or the wiring harness off. Any help? Not being a terribly literate individual when it comes to under the hood stuff, I am hesitant to force things out of fear that I will break them.
If I can do this on my own without paying the dealership or someone else, I would be SO happy! Autozone has been great - reading my codes for me, resetting, etc. Are they a good source for the replacement DPFE? I've seen some posts that suggest otherwise... Thanks for any help and thanks to this site for all the great information....
On many electrical connectors, there is a catch or a snap device that keeps the wiring from falling off. Look at it and see how it works; sometimes you press on part of the connector to release it, then pull; othertimes you use a small screwdriver to release it then pull the wire.
As for any small vac lines, they should just pull off. Make sure you note where they go before removing so you can hook them back up in the correct position (may not matter for what you're doing, but I'd still do it). If the hose is stuck, try rotating it with your fingers to loosen it.
Thanks! I "lubed' everything up with Carb Cleaner yesterday and pulled the negative cable on my battery. Now I'm waiting for the CEL to come back on before I attack the DPFE. I definitely couldn't figure out the tab on the wiring harness - I was so nervous that I would break it! And the hoses, well, I can pull and twist til they come off... just don't want to end up without transportation! Thanks again for your help!
