Road Trip!

I'm going to be moving from northeast South Dakota to Fairchild AFB near Spokane WA the end of this month. Obviously, the elevation changes a lot during this trip, and I was hoping some of you may have tips/tricks and suggestions for periodically adjusting my carbureator over the course of the trip. I have a 70 F250 4x4 with a 390, edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb, msd ignition. Is it good enough to just adjust the idle mixture screws every time I stop for gas? thanks guys,
moonley

Moonley: For traveling, any changes you make will have very little - if any - impact on freeway driving. The little improvements in gas mileage and/or performance you MIGHT recover will be lost in the fiddling around.
I drove my '66 F-100, 352 w/2bbl carb across the Rockies several times, and never adjusted it, never needed to. Other trips included from Tacoma, WA to Reno, NV, Detroit to Seattle (through Spokane, too) and the like, and still never adjusted my carb until I got to my destination.
Keep in mind that the adjuster screws only affect the idle circuits, not the jets or venturies, so you are not making much of an effect or change except at idle.

The elevation difference between Dakota and Spokane is probably not enough to worry about at this point for city and freeway driving combined. Don't attempt any changes when you arrive until after you have had time to determine if you really need to change it, then make your changes in tiny increments.

Good! I'm glad to hear that. I was kinda thinking that the idle mixture screws would only change the idle... What got me thinking all of this is because I know we have to change the jets in our snowmobiles when we ride them at different elevations. Thanks for the input, that's one less thing I have to worry about!
