I'm considering buying a 97 F-250 diesel. Is the automatic w/overdrive a better tranny than the older E4OD? Thanks for any info.

They have had a lot of problems with the trans in these trucks, mostly caused by a poor design convertor. If you are going to buy this truck I highly suggest you purchase a good warrenty to conver the drivetrain.

I am experiencing tranny trouble as well with my 1999 SD Power Stroke automatic. At 62,000 miles it is going out. I have a Super Chip that Ford is using as an excuse to not help with any costs of replacing tranny! What have you heard about other Ford PS owners with Auto Trans problems. I am trying to find everything I can.
Thank you
Bob

Contact Ford Customer relations, they may be willing to help you. The truck is under warrenty and should be covered.
