Who has every changed a timing belt out on a frontwheel drive car . My girlfriends geo has 130K miles and i think it's time for a new one what is the difficult level or should i take this one to shop ? I have never played much with front wheel drives and dont want to get in over my head ?
What kind of car is it?
I've never done it, but I wouldn't want to try it. Probably isn't that difficult, except for the fact that the front of the engine is wedged about 2" from the fender. I hate working on FWD cars, especially pulleys, belts, alt, anything in the front of the engine.
I have changed the timing belt on front wheel drive cars before. The last one was a honda. I had to remove an engine mount along with the crank pulley and other usual things. Yours might be easier. You can do it but be patient, there won't be much room to work in.
That's about how it goes on the GEO. You have to take the mount off and drop the engine down to get the lower gear off. Replace it too, the keyways are bad about wollering out.
Is it a SOHC or GSI DOHC?
it'a 96 prism sohc . Yeah if i going that deep in it im cahnging everything that even looks funny. I mean it's been a great car she had almost 5 years and onlything done is brakes and oil i wish i could say that about any of my trucks
