changing ign. systems

my son has a 1985 b-2 with a 2.8 engine the electrical system is a total mess and he is using a holley carb on a hoffy intake. the question is
he has/had a TFI-IV system and we are putting in a duraspark 2 wiring harness Can we reuse the existing Distributor and re-wire the connection for the duraspark 2. Or does he need a aftermarket/replacement distributor

Try to get a DuraSpark 2 distributor, module, and wiring harness together--as in from a 2.8 Mustang II--and install them together. Just mount the module as high on the fenderwell as the length of the wiring harness will allow in order to keep it as cool as possible. Too, be sure to use dielectric compound between the terminals on the module connectors. The DuraSpark 2 unit was capable of 40,000 volts at 0.4 amp and it must have the compound to keep it from arcing across the terminals. Especially if you keep the module cool, it will give you good service for street use and save you a bundle of money as compared to an aftermarket ignition set-up.
