I have a 2004 f-150 Supercrew 4x4. The truck has been missing and you can see the rpm gauge jump. Brought it to dealer and they tried to tell me that we have bad gadown here in Louisiana and that they could find no problems. I paid $350.00 for them to do some kind of injector service, and the truck is still running like crap. Any thought or similar problems from anyone else?
Wow - that's awful. I feel bad for you. I don't have a 2004 but I did hear that gas sold by Texaco & Shell did have problems & caused damage to various vehicles. Some mechanics reported working on several vehicles/week due to the bad gas. Is that 1 of the brands you used? Also there's only 2 major refineries in the country so gas sold to other brands will come from the same refineries - you'd have to find out which refinery your station buys gas from. Try contacting the State Atty Gen maybe - see if they are pursuing this. Also, I'd call Ford & see why a new vehicle under warranty should be charged for that injector test. I mean if the injectors were ok & the problem was something different why should you pay for the diagnostics?
Good luck with this - I hope you find a satisfactory resolution.
Here's the report on FL & LA gas: do not buy SHELL or TEXACO in FL. OR LA.
was reading the paper a few days ago, and the shell/texaco refinery in louisiana that distributes gas to louisiana and parts of florida, had to much sulphur in the gas and it was destroying the mechanism that goes in the gas tank that tells how much fuel you have. you could be on 1/2 tank, and you may actually be empty. a mechanic in some part of louisiana states he usually replaces a gas tank mechanism maybe 3-4 times per year, he states he has already replaced 5-6 within 2 weeks. one customer states he has filed a claim with shell/texaco. to much sulphur will destroy it within a few days is what was stated.
they state that it was only distrubuted to florida and louisiana. just to be safe, i am not going to buy there for a month or so. they talked to several shell/texaco store owners, and they state they have not been able to serve gas for about 4-6 days. so, they are probably closed.
just a heads up. even if they state they have the problem corrected very soon, i would be kind of scared to test it out on my auto's. just a heads up. hoping that shell/texaco reimburses for the repairs
Here's the info I found on another site about KY gas: Sulphur in Gas destroys gas sensors in Louisville, KY
Thousands of people are facing a 400-1,200 dollar repair
after Marathon was cited for sulphur in the gasoline sold
in the Louisville area this past week ....
AAA was flooded with calls as people ran outta gas even though
the gas gauge said they had a half tank ...
Marathon is going to pay for the repairs (IF YOU HAVE A RECEIPT!)
Apparently only the lower grades of gas were affected ...
Why would you pay for something when the vehicle is under warranty? Im curious who told you this crap? Bad gas is an excuse just to take your money. I live here in slidell La. close to you. Email me and let me know what dealership you are dealing with. I can also put you in touch with a buddy of mine that is a service writer at a local ford dealership there in new orleans.

You got ripped off. Your truck is still under warranty.
Shanemay, you may have been ripped off but also keep in mind that in order for ford to warranty a problem they would have had to created the problem, introducing bad gas from a service station has nothing to do with warranty status. that said if your problem continued after the injector service, did they flush and clean your fuel system?if not then the injector cleaning for $350 is a total rip off.
This sounds like a case of Ford Dealer customer beware (for this dealer anyway).
If it's bad gas, they would need to drain the gas tank and flush all the lines, AFTER they took a sample of the fuel to determine it was comtaminated. Did they show you any such 'bad gas'?
After their 'fix' with no improvement, why are you not down there demanding a refund?
Minimum, you should be demanding a complete diagnostic, with print outs of all results. If you can't 'read' them, that's fine, take them to a shop and ask for opinions.
Have you (truck) been in water recently?
" " " washed engine " ?
" " bought gas recently, and did problem start after this?
