It will not adhere properly using a brush and will not coat correctly. The best thing to do is buy some Rustoleum(sp?) spray paint or paint meant for a grill and spray paint the rims. This is advice from someone that has painted trucks with brushes and rollers.

You'll get better results and less overspray on the truck if you take the wheels off the truck to paint them. It's not hard to mask off the tires when they're off the truck and if you wash them first, the tape will stick better. It beats having to mask the hubs and lug nuts, and trying to get between the wheel and the brakes to mask the drums/discs when the wheel is in the way, plus you can flip them over and paint the back side if they are rusty. I have painted wheels this way before and it went ok. Use a spray can instead of a brush and sand the surface as best you can with some sandpaper or a scotch brite pad. The paint will stick better and last longer if you spray some primer on them before you paint them.
