Some help after the new paint work.
Wetsand with some 600 until the run is nearly (not completely) flat with the top paint layer. Use care, remembering that the run is thinner at the top of the run. In some cases, the run may have even pulled paint from the top layer, making an indentation.
Then attack the area with some 1500 grit, smoothing the area and sanding out the 600 sanding marks.
Now wait a few warm days, allowing a complete cure. You want the area hard before you buff. This is especailly important since you have just exposed soft paint. After things have hardened up, buff out with your favorite buffing compound. If you don't have a buffer, you can do a small area it by hand.
If all else fails, you can repaint. Sand the area smooth with 400 grit, feather sanding into the good paint. Now sand the entire panel.
You have to build the repaired area, until it is the same height as the good paint. Spot the repaired area with paint. On your next pass, spray a larger area. Spray a larger area again. The idea is to keep stepping out so things blend in. Finish by spraying the entire panel.
Lots of work but in the end, noone will ever know.
