I have a question about my 2004 F-150 4x4. In the owners manuel it said not to tow anything for the first 500 miles and then not to go over 50mph for the first 500 miles of towing. I had 550 miles on it before I towed by 2200lb boat, but I went 55mph. Have I hurt anything? I know my estimated EPA has gone down from 15.6 to 14.5. I hope I haven't messed anything up.

Runs Great.
Thanks,
I must admit that I broke those guidelines when I got my truck. I now have 6500 miles on mine and all is well here.
I am surprised that you have broken your cars warranty. I would suggest you change the oil every 500 miles for the next six thousand miles. In addition be sure and change the filter each time. This should get your truck back into syc.
When I got my truck, I asked at the service manager about towing. He said that I could tow anything right away, so I was like ok, I'm going to tow a 4000 pound boat today and pull it out of the water and he said it would be no problem. So thats exactly what I did. So, from miles 50 to 100, I towed the boat. If there is going to be a problem down the road, I'll blame the service manager at the ford dealer. I would suspect that he knows more about these trucks than most anyone since his men are the ones that have to work on these things. One thing that i did do was drive in direct rather than in overdrive.
I did the same and asked the service manager about towing, and he said it would be all right to tow right away without no problems. I'll be towing a trailor next week 1000 miles, but I'll try to stay within the 500 miles break in period anyway.

Where does it state this? I read the manual in all the sections related to towing and the automatic transmission. I didn't see any mileage restriction. I towed 7500lbs (my bronco on a trailer) on the test drive, just to insure the truck could handle it. The dealer didn't mind at all.
Has anybody towed anything big with these new F-150's? I have an '01 Screw with 5.4, 3.55 limited slip..blah, blah blah. I tow a 7500lb travel trailer that kills my truck. I want a SD but have been looking hard at the new 150's. I just want to know how they pull, 5.4, 3.73 limited slip Screw. Anyone help????? It will be pulling up and down hills and a pretty good distance. I get so tired of hearing the Flowmaster scream on hills as mine shifts all the way to 2nd gear on hills. Thank God I can turn off the OD or the tranny would probably shoot through the floor. Any experiences on heavy towing on the interstate?
I've only been in this business about 18 years, so maybe I haven't seen it all- YET. I can tell you this: in those 18 years, I have yet to see a mechanic with a bunch of broken parts in his hand, saying to me, "...if only they hadn't towed anything in the first 500 miles, this never would have happened..." I know a lot of you think I'm crazy, but I don't worry much about break-in periods. Consumer Reports did a study a couple years ago, and they found that the average rental car has no more repairs over its lifetime than a non-rental. And how do we drive those brand-new rental cars, right off the lot? Like we stole 'em, that's how! They never get "properly" broken-in, and they run fine for years. Go figure.
My last 1 I pushed snow with the bumper for 10 miles across the lake, foot on the floor with 200 kms on it, now it has 500,000 kms and has never opened the engine up, the best 1 I've ever owned.I shoulda kept it.
