Today we had our first winter day, about 5 degrees with wind chill about -40. Do any of you put something in front to block part of the radiator when it's very cold? The truck never really warmed up. Thanks for any info.
You can use cardboard between the grill and radiator and block off about 1/3 of the surface area to start with and increase or decrease to find what works best. On the KW when it's -20 or less, I block it about 80% off.
Diesel's usually have oversized radiators. During the winter it will take almost an hour to heat completely. I block off about 1/2 to 3/4 of my radiator, but I also watch the temp gauge like a hawk. It only takes once to overheat a diesel and it is ruined. Use a piece of cardboard and adjust it as necessary.
I am thinking of having a weather front built for my truck from canvas like the over the road trucks use up north in the witer. Sounds like a cool idea to me. If it is zippered in the front then I can just zip it down some and experiment from there.
