i recently bought a 01 350 sd with the psd. 130k miles but the engine was replaced with only 2k miles on it now. I have owned the truck three weeks and it has now been in the shop for 1.5 weeks. started loosing power and replaced the cam sensor. no luck so I turned it over to the highly paid professionals. they have
replaced throttle sensor, fuel pump, two injectors, injector seals, removed and cleaned the fuel tank and all the lines, removed and inspected the turbo and intercooler, replaced fuel pressure sensor
they have now realized that the fuel system has been pressurized by combustion pressure and think that either a head is bad or the injectors on one bank are bad.
the truck ran great untill the 4th tank of fuel. once the truck warms then it would not do 50mph it would shut down ses light on sit for a while then move slowly on. I found out that the truck has not seen 1k miles in the past year.
out side chance they will replace the whole engine
sounds like you bought a lemon, or who ever bought it from the dealer. thats to bad but i know how you feel as i had bought a 99 f550 six speed manual PSD dually and threw a flat bed on her and before the truck was on the road something kept going wrong every time i turned around something needed to be fixed, i ended up spending a larger amount of doe over time to get her to preform like she should. but the truck also had fuel injection problems, at least my mechanic and the ford dealer told me it did. so good luck with that, lord knows i wont ever do it again
What other symptoms does it have? smoking, skipping, stuttering, etc...? The engine thats in it now is it a reman or factory "new" engine? I HIGHLY doubt its building compression pressure in the fuel system. What kinda fuel pressure does it have? Any fuel restriction?
the truck has been at the shop for 1.5 weeks. the problem now is that once the truck is warm 20 mins if driving it looses all power. the truck I replaced it with was a 20 yo chevy w/350 and it had more power.
boost is good and the fuel pressure is also good according to the tech. he thought it was fixed I picked it up and now I have the same problem.
I think it is a reman, when I bought the truck they said it was new but the paperwork I have does not agree, How can I tell.
Also you should know the engine was installed 2/18/03 and it now has only 2 k miles on it.
If they replace the engine, I would ask them to either take the engine apart and deterimine what was wrong and do a complete inspection of the fuel system in the truck before starting that new motor.
without seeing the fuel and boost pressure numbers and using a diag tool i would like to say you have a fuel restriction. I had a truck doing this last week and turned out to be a fuel restriction in the fuel filter header. Have the tech install a restriction gauge and road test it. Also make sure the tech is road testing it w/ manual gauges installed to get boost and fuel pressure figures not by using the diag tool.
i know the tech had a diagnostic tool sent up when he test drove it but i do not think he had gauges. One other event happened while he test drove it, the fuel line under the engine blew apart while the truck was moving
