I am currently running stock exhaust with muffler delete, would I see any improvement with EGT's if I would go to a 4" exhaust with muffler? What should I expect?
yeah, anywhere from 150 to 200 lower on the EGTs with a 4" inch exhaust, not to mention the significant power gains in the mid and upper range. Most of the kits come with a straight through muffler that is 4" inside with a baffle around it similar to a glass pack design, so although there is a muffler, it is the same as a straight pipe. If you still don't want the muffler at all, you can just put a piece of 4" pipe in its place. My 4" system was aluminized with a 5" polished stainles tip from diamond eye for $329 turbo back.. Good luck..
You didn't specify the model year of your truck, but if it's a SuperDuty, you'll gain more by going to a full 4" system than if you had an original Powerstroke. The reason is, the muffler on a SuperDuty is not a straight through design, so it's more restrictive than the stock muffler on one of the original Strokes.
Significant gains can still be made by going to a 4" system on an original body style truck, but the upside is greater on a SuperDuty.
I don't know what my temps were running before the exhaust because the gauges came next but my temps at 65 and 3 lbs boost run about 500-550. The biggest difference was the mileage went up at least 3/4 if not 1. It was really choked back. It was almost flat near the spare tire, well maybe 2" anyway.
The EGT's will be slightly lower with a straight pipe, and they'll also be lower with a larger diameter pipe. A straight through muffler adds very little restriction, so it doesn't affect the EGT's as much as one that's baffled.
