He said the oil has to be changed at EVERY 3000 miles, no more. is this true? its no big deal, but just curious.
he changes the fuel fileter every 6000, but thats just his preferance.
We service all of our diesles at 5,000 miles, oil and filter. You dont just change the oil and not the filter. Dont know what this guy is doing, but the suggested is 5,000 miles. On some larger motors you could go longer, up to 10,000 but not on these smaller motors.
The powerstroke uses high pressure engine oil (1800 psi and up) to actuate the injectors. The recommended engine oils for this motor have a anti foaming agent in it that starts to break down after about 3000 miles or so and when that happens, power and drivability are lost in the PSD. The trapped air in the oil drops the necessary pressure to the injectors and creates a weak spray pattern and the resulting uneven burn.
Hope this helps.
I have a '89 F-350 7.3L with a 3" lift and 38.5" super swampers, i go no longer than 3000 for oil and filter, i believe it extends the life, do i think that tire size matters to miles, maybe it does, but i still wouldnt go longer than that.
