I'm glad this post reappeared. I have always wondered why the 54 gets ripped on? I don't understand the big love of the 56 grille? I like em all but 54 is the coolest cause everyone loves to hate it!
I have every grille but 53 hanging on my wall. Gotta have some wall art.
You guys can't be serious!...A white '54 deluxe cab grille with the starburst in the middle and the diagonal bars on either side---the absolute zenith of functional beauty....
I like my 54 grill aswell but I am going to cut it up to put duel headlights. I saw truck once in a magazine it said it had headlights from a 59 Impala.
Even pretty girls with big noses need lovin! (in the dark that is) Have you ever noticed how guys take pics of their truck backed in the garage and the guys with 54's usually take the pics with the truck pulled in!
Just kidding ! Different is way cool! I would use a 54 in a 54.
here is a pic of my truck backed in with her beautiful front end for all to see!!
And speaking of garage art here is a pic of my original grille hanging in my garage with the original tailgate in the background.
A couple of years ago I got the book, Standard Catalog of Ford Trucks, and it says this about the '54 grille: it has the "jet-wing" look. I think it was supposed to capture the popular look of the jet age.
I really like the teeth that sorta look like the '52 grille, or the lines I should say. I need a new grille for my truck anyways (or a lot of work making it look nice enough)... maybe I should just design and build something completely custom but looks like it could have been factory. Then again given the hood vents I'm doing...
and I'm running off my thoughts.
I never got why people didn't like the '54, to each their own of course, personally I greatly perfer it over the '53 or '55 grille myself. Though it still strikes me as a design that has a lot of untapped potentinal.
Think I'll get a couple of 51/52 grills. Combine them into one to fit my '55. Add a couple of teeth. Best of both worlds. Bigger cab with the '55, gorgeous grill of a '51/52.
Hi, If you go with the '56 grill your gonna have to buy new buckets(I think) and your gonna have to use the '56 filler panels that go behind the buckets.
I like useing the correct grill, I welded all the seams on mine and painted it to match the body. It had the original seargent stripes on it but they were badly pitted so I sold them and went with a cleaner look.
