I'm new to the board and hoping to get some advice on tires from you guys.
I have a 2001 F250 Powestroke 4x4 super cab with Wrangler AT/S 265/75/16E tires. I no longer have the need to pull anything and I'm thinking about switching to a BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO 285/75/16D.
Can I safely switch from an E ply to an D ply? If I'm not going to be towing anything is there anything wrong with using a D ply?
Yeah I run that same tire on my 95 F350 and haven't had any problems whats so ever. Its a great tire go for it! I'm running them on the stock wheels as well.
As long as you aren't towing or carrying heavy loads in your bed, you could switch down to a C range tire and be fine, and probably get a smoother ride out of it as well.
I'm running 33x12.50-16.5 load range D BFG AllTerrain KO's on 10" wheels on my F350 with no problems. I pump them up to max pressure when I have a load in the bed. If I had a bigger heavier camper I would want tires with a higher load rating, but for me they are fine.
I run mine low because I like a smooth ride and they are worn out anyways and need new ones. I'm running them at 35-40 psi. I hardly carry anything heavy in the truck anyways. I will inflate them a little more when its loaded. I need to redo my suspension bushings. I was looking at those things the other day and they are shot and will replace them as soon as I get my lift.
