oil pressure???

hello like the heading says... i have a problem with my oil pressure in my 83 f100 with a 302. when i turn the key into the on position the pressure guage goes up to the a in normal...but when i start the truck...it slowly starts to go down and doesnt stop until theres no pressure. im not sure if its the oil sending unit, or something in my engine or its my guage... i just recently swapped out my v6 for the 302...any ideas???

sounds like your gauge is screwed, try putting in a good gauge and see what happens, it seems funny that the thing comes up the A when u turn the key to the on position. usually they come up as the truck runs.

To check the gauge, turn the key on, don't start the engine. Find the oil pressure sender on the engine and ground the terminal, the gauge should read max while grounded. Now disconnect the wire from the sender, should read zero. If it does these things, it's a sender problem, if it doesn't it's the wiring or gauge. I assume all the other gauges are working properly, since you didn't say anything about them.

hey guys... guess what?? i found out that the oil pressure sending unit thats on my engine is kinda like a fake. the engine is out of a van and it doesnt have an oil pressure guage, it just has an idiot light bulb that comes on and off.. soooo i took the sender off of my 3.8 v6 and now it works!!! i had to use an extension becaue of my fuel pump tho...thanks for your replies
