Sometimes at Idle is sounds and feels like its missing, and when accellerating (NO LOAD) up thourgh 1800-2000 it does the same thing. It's getting 15mph empty on a long trip. That seems to be OK, but what's this missing?

Thanks for the post Dave.
A Cam Sensor shouldn't be too difficult to Replace, and if it's not too spendy, it would be worth the try to see if that's it.
When I first read about "Cam Sensors" I wondered if Ford had come up with a way to advance the Cam shaft timing? One of the Racers building Ford Flatheads and somebody in Motorcycles had tried that back in the late Fortys or Fifties. Probably lots of others too. I'd guess the only reason it didn't work was some related technology was not as well developed.
We are having a Diesel Coffee clatch here in ABQ at the Duke City Cafe today at 6PM. I wish you could join us. We'd all like to hear what you have to say. Any other Diesel heads in the ABQ area are welcome too. We'll be in the Back.
I hope to find out what kind of books I need and where to get them, and if it would do any good to have them, at this Coffee clatch. Some of this stuff takes a Pre-Programmed computer to troubleshoot.
Some can be done with out the computer, I THINK, and I'll bring that up at the Clatch today.

Hey before you spend any $$ how many miles on your truck, the camshaft sensor is covered under the basic warrenty of 5 year 100,000 miles. If your truck is under the mileage, suggest you let ford change it out, under warrenty.
Also dont know where you are, I am located in Southern Calif.
I took mine in for a water pump, and came home with a new cam position sensor, flywheel, and 8 new injectors as well. I figured it was the water pump vibrating, since it leaked. $100.00 well spent. 5 years, 100,000 miles, 7 weeks left.
Cable Guy hit the Jackpot!
I think I'll spend some time in the Recall's and TSB's on this thing. Its only Four years old, and only 40,ooo miles. It should have some guarentee left, but the Kid doesn't think so.
I had a good experience with Ford, like Cable_Guy. I took my 82 Escort in for a "Pulling" problem in the front end. They replaced the Head and some other stuff. They said it was an Oil leak caused by the warped head. I never even knew there was a problem in the engine compartment.
All those previous posts are good advice. But before you go to your dealer, change the oil. The injectors use the engine oil as hydraulic fluid to fire the injectors and therefore need a high degree of anti-foam agent in the additive package. 2 oils that I know of that are in compliance are Shell Rotella and Motorcraft (Diesel). Try one of those and see if the problem goes away.
