Speedo problem

I have a 89 F150 with a 302 4x4 the speedometer at around 65 to 75 miles an hour isw really loud vibrates and surges and bounces between the actual speed and ten mile per hour slower is this the cable or the speedo? After about 75 it quites down and stays in one spot until the RPM's kick up when the tranny downshifts or something then it does it again until it shifts back down.

Could be the cable or the gear inside the granny, its only plastic.

If it was the gear would it do it at all speeds or just between ceratin ones? does the speedo come off the tranny or transfer case in a 89 F150?

I was told it is off the rear axle.

I'd say the gear is starting to slip at high speeds causing this.

Thanks where exactly is the gear located and how much is a new gear, is it in the t-case like chevys or in the rear axle? Thanks again
