Parking Brake Shoes
Is there any harm in running a vehicle without parking brake shoes? Mine disintegrated about a year ago and I have not done anything about it except clean out the remnants of the shoes.
However, recently I have been hearing a squeal that sounds like the brake pads are rubbing on my rotors. It doesn't happen when I am braking, in fact, it usually happens when I am accelerating after coming to a stop. Kind of like the pads are sticking to the rotors a little bit.
Could this be related to the parking brake? Any other ideas?
Vehicle info: 1997 Explorer Sport, 4.0 SOHC, 166,000 miles. Rear rotors - 1 year old. Front rotors, 1 month old. Front and rear pads, 1 month old.
