I Bought My Truck New And Never Had Any Problems With The O/d On Off Switch Located On The Shift Lever. A Couple Of Days Ago It Stopped Working. I Used It On The Highway To Shut The Overdrive Off Because The Tranny Was Hunting For A Lower Gear To Much. (hauling 2700 Lbs W/3.0) When I Filled Up And Proceeded To Go The Overdrive Indicator Light Would Not Turn On Nor Would The Truck Disengage Out Of Overdrive When I Pushed The Button. I Need Help!! Do I Have To Take It In For A Diagnostic Check Or Is There Something I Can Do Myself To Fix This Problem(like A Fuse Or Connector Check?). Any Insight Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks!
More than likely one or more wires are broken in the shift lever. But Check all the fuses. These wires usually break where they come out of the shift lever, when they break just the wire breaks not the insulation. Remove the colume cover and unplug the switch. The wire may be difficult to see so you will have to search for it where it comes out of the shifter and follow it to the plug. Unplug it. Remove the over drive button by gently prying the cover for the button off. Pull out the button and you will see the switch in the shifter colume. Do a continuity test to see if there is continuty. if there is continuty the problem is some where else. But I would bet that the wires are broke.Broken wires are a common problem and Ford know about it. A new lever will cost you any where from sixty to 0ne hundred dollars. Bastages!

look, OBD-II scanner may scan tranny codes, but you will not see all tranny actual values via OBD data (Ford VCM FS is required), so to check OD button you have to measure voltage on PCM terminals. Broken OD button wire does not cause code (it is not a Mercedes....) I'm not sure what a pin, gona see tommorow.
But you may have bad OD solenoid (in valve body), corrozed tranny connector, corrozed PCM connector... Check band ajustment too.
But if you have tranny code, OD flashes, so I suggest it is broken wire in column....
