Watch your wiring

This is just an FYI. I have a 1984 Ford f-150 300 six 155000 miles. Just this weekend I changed from the TFI ignition back to DurasparkII because I going to install my Offey manifold and EFI exhasut manifolds some time in the near future. Here is something I found that explains some strangeness I was seeing in this truck. All the insulation in the wiring harness from the connection on the fender to the ignition module and down the side of the engine was bad. I mean when I disturbed the harness it all fell off the wires. I had been having some hard start problems and the gauges would not read correctly. The conversion went well and the truck runs fine. I installed mechanical gauges and all reading from them are excellent. It appears that any amount of oil contamination will destroy the insulation on these wires.

What did you do for the resistor in the 'Run' mode of the DSII and did you leave the EEC carb alone?

I used the TFI e-coil it runs on 12 volts. Right now the carb is the Carter feed back. They will actually idle better when the feedback solenoid is shut off. It runs a little rich but has been that way for awhile. That is one of the reasons for moving the Offey and two barrel Ford 2150. The old Carter just won't rebuild any more. The gauges I mounted in the Speedo bezel since this truck does not have Air there is space where the air ducts would be right side of steering wheel.
