Hi guys,
Got a question for you PowerStroke owners. Just out of idle curiosity, what kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting? I know a guy who is claiming some pretty impressive numbers for his '93 Cummins and just wondered how they compare. Thanks for your time.
I have a '97 F-350 4X4 long box PSD 5sp., 4:10 gears and averaged 23 mpg on a recent 1500 mi trip to Canada, carrying a 14ft aluminum boat and other equipment in the box. A/C was in operation the entire trip. Different brands of fuel were also used. Around town, about 17-19 mpg.
I work out of '99 E-450 ambulances with automatics and 4:10 gears and they average 10-12 mpg. Their wieghts are just over 12,000lbs. loaded and are driven hard!
I personally never liked the Ford diesels until the day I drove an ambulance equipped with a powerstroke. Liked it so much, that I just had to have one for myself. 98% of all ambulances produced last year were on Ford chassis. Something the other manufacturers haven't been able to compete with for years. I'll bet the Dodge doesn't perform like the PSD.
I just returned from a 2800 mile trip through OR, ID, WY, UT and CO, pulling my 9000# travel trailer. I averaged 11.8mpg. The truck only has 4200 miles on it total, so it's still getting broken in.
I have a 97 F250 HD XLT powerstorke,4x4, auto,4:10 LWB with 26000 miles
Its getting 17 sofar but still breaking it in. 17 on the highway with a trailer sometimes and ery little city. I love the power, very little turbo lag, and I blow right by all 2000 and older dodge diesels. The Dodge does get around 19 to 20 with a 5 speed if they are lucky... The choices is yours I just did not want to shift all the time in traffic. dont get a gas V10 unless you like terrible miliage <7.5 to 11> They are a dine a dozzen for a GAS truck .....Buy the real thing POWERSTOKE !!!! You will love it.
This is ford truck # 5 for me in a row
You should consult your local FORD house ASAP. I have a 97 Powerstroke F250HD auto,4x4 and love it. I am getting around 17 miles to the gallon and that is respectable for a 8800 lbs truck. Mine only has 26000 miles and still not good and broke in yet, Go and drive a GM/Dodge and you will be back....The new GM should be good if you can put up with the cheap plastic interior. The New dodge runs great if you want a 5 or 6 speed. What kinda milage are you looking for? I work for GM mabe I could help you and I have contacts all over this industry.
Just for info, this is the same motor International uses on there med duty trucks, I have two of them and the one I drive is an 1997 international 4700 and weighs empty 14,000. It gets on normal driving 12 mpg. Not too bad for this size of a truck.
I own a 1999 F250 and i have been having troubles with low gas milage. Around 12-14 miles per gal. and it gets worse in cold temps. Also we own a 30 ft. 5th wheel and when pulling it the milage doesn't really change much. We have owned the truck for over a year and the milage per gal. hasn't change hardly at all. Is this normal, is there anything i can do about it?
I recently bought an '01 Crew Cab F-250 4x4 with 3.73 gears and I've been getting about 18 mpg. I got the 6-speed and keep a light foot on the throttle and shift about 2k rpm. The 18 mpg is highway,I'm sure in-town is less but haven't really checked it.
Hello all. I recently bought a 95 F250 power stroke 5 speed manual extended cab long bed with 137,000 miles on it. Truck has 3:55 gears in it, factory aluminum wheels with 235/85 R 16 tires. I believe it was used to haul a bobcat or something like it because it has a pintle hook on the back that is worn down like it has been used a lot. I am getting 21 - 21.5 mpg on number 2 diesel, 18-19.5 mpg on a 70/30 winter blend. It has no performance modifications, only a set of Truckware running boards, a bug deflector and a set of ventshades. I have never owned a truck I liked more - this is my sixth Ford truck of the eight trucks I have owned.
You might be a redneck if --- your best car is a truck.
My 2000 f350 crew cab 4X4 dually with 46k gets around 14 empty and between 7.6 - 11 when I am pulling. I pull for a living (everything from 40' 5th wheels to light boats on single axle trailers). It got 14 right out of the box. Automatic with 4:10 gears is what I suspect is the low mpg culprit. Anyone in a comparable situation?
I have had a 99 350 PS DWL for 16 months with only 16K miles pulling a 17000 lb fifth wheel and get 10 MPG with combined level and hills driving @ 65MPH. I get 16+ empty @65. My first diesel and still earning tricks. Talked to one who claimed 14.5 MPG pulling 17K fifth wheel. I think he was a fisherman. Great truck except when pulling big hills 30MPH and under.
