Shocks, Tires, and Wheels

I've got 120,000 miles on my '97 F-150, and its time for a 3rd set of tires. I also need to get some new shocks, and I'm thinking about changing wheels.

1. Tires. I've used the OE Wrangler RT/S 265/70/R17's for my 1st 2 sets of tires. They've worn pretty well so far, but they handle terribly. I want to stiffen up my steering, but want to keep good treadlife. I do most of my driving on the road/highway. I've seen recommendations for the Michelins, but would like to hear some comments from the gallery.

2. Shocks. Again, most of my driving is on road, not off, and I am willing to trade smooth ride for better steering. I've seen the high-end shocks like Bilsteins, etc. but I don't want to buy something that would be overkill. Recommendations?

3. Finally, wheels. I'm looking for some steel wheels to replace my stock rims. I've banged two of them up so far, and instead of replacing another one, I figured steel wheels would wear better. If I can find some powder coated, all the better. Will steel wheels be more durable, and if so, any recommendations on where to find them. Everything I've seen online is alloy and too fancy. I want something plain and hardy in black...

Thanks,

For your tires, I recommend the Dunlop Radial Rovers. I have the 265/75/r16's. I put them on my truck almost a year ago and I couldn't be more pleased. They still look brand new too!

As for the shocks, I would go with Rancho. You could easily get better performance with their adjustible shocks.
