Hello All,
I have a wonderful Friend who is having problems with the large side back seat in her 96 Explorer XLT. Seems like the latch busted on the right side of the seat if you are looking at it from the front. The left side still unhooks but the right side doesn't. She took it to the dealer and they said the entire seat needs to replaced at a cost of $400 Yikes!!! Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know how I can remove the latch so that the seat just folds down and stays down?? Seems her dogs are the only ones who will be enjoying that back seat from now on. She's really hot and this would help me get in better with her if you know what I mean. Thanks You crazy Ford driving Mother F ers. This site rocks!!!!!!!! Gabriel C Newbie on the Ford Enthusiast Site.
I have the same problem in my '95. In my case the latch linkage broke or just stretched out, so it does not release the lock anymore. What I do to fold the seat down is I find the linkage itself, where the backs of the seats meet by seat belt latches there are "hinges" for the backs of seats, you have to pull the upholstery up a little bit to reveal a metal wire. Now this is where it gets tricky. You have to unlatch the left side first with the plastic handle, then keep it unlocked and pull the wire with pliers. It takes some practice, but you should be able to do it. If you can't find the wire, let me know I'll try to post a pic.
The dealer wants $400 because that wire runs across the whole seat and to make things worse it runs on top of the seat.
My 95 eddie bauer has the same problem i have gotten the damn thing to fold down when needed but i'd take a variety of curse words and blood sweat n tears. I'm gonna look for the damn wire and see what i can do to fix it.
