Ford vs Fram
I have a 91 explorer with 273,000 + mileage on it I parked it back in Aug 03 due to the fact I bought a 2000 Explorer. My wife needed a car because she blow the trans in her Tausus wagon which is another story anyway I put the 91 back on the road for her. She drove it about a week and while returning home she said the oil pressure dropped to 0 psi After towing it home I check it out and she was right.I was talking to a friend that owns his own garage he ask if I had a Fram filter on and that I should take it off if so and then check oil pressure I did and put a motorcraft filter on My oil pressure when back up to about 35 psi the only problem is from the time the oil pressure drop till my wife got the thing stop it toke the bearings with they are knocking like crazy

While I used Fram oil filters on my '99 Explorer since the first oil change, I was noticing some oil pressure problems on start up. After some research, I discovered using Fram filters can cause the problems I experienced.
After reviewing the study at http://www.frankhunt.com/FRANK/corvette/articles/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html,
I have now stopped buying Fram.
I should also say that when Consumer Reports did the oil filter tests, Motorcraft was up on top, too. But according to the website, Ford changes manufacturers sometimes.
