Help... Really need some tech info
I have a Cobra Radar Detector and Cobra CB hooked up in my truck.. Their tied into fuses in the fuse box.. Different fuse for each wire.. CB Manual said to use the fusebox.. Cobra I did on my own.. I was sitting at my mothers office and got in the truck to leave.. I had the truck running with the cb, radar and stereo on.. I climbed in and pulled my emergency brake lever and everything went haywire.. I lost my radio, and my cb.. My dash gauges went crazy.. My ABS light would flash 7 times then stop, then flash.. My Service Engine Soon light was on.. I had no stop lights, no turn signals.. It was really weird.. So I went to an autoparts store and started tearing into the truck.. I found a High Current Disturbution Fuse 50A Battery Feed (label in the book) blown.. Replaced that.. Fixed.. Replaced CB Fuses.. Fixed..
Now what would have caused that? Truck only had 39148 miles.. Could it be those things wired into my fuse box? If so what is a better way of wiring it? I want it setup to when I turn my truck on my radar comes on.. My CB i can wire to the battery no problem..
Any help would be appreciated guys.. Thanks!
When I hooked up my CB (mounted between my drivers seat and passenger seat), I ran the wires under my seat, through the running board on the drivers side and up the kickpanel to the fuse box.. When I got in the truck tonight to leave I popped the emergency brake and got a spark under there.. When I tried to set the brake it started arching again.. I turned the truck off and pulled the wires from the fuse box and started to move the wiring.. Somehow the wiring slipped into the assymbly of the emergency brake pedal so when I was setting it, it was basically stripping the sheath on the wiring so that it would ground out on the metal..
So for any of you that do that make sure you zip tie the wire off to the plastic clips on the bottom of the dash so the wiring does slide into the brake assymbly and you end up arching like I did.. Small price to pay to realize your faults..
Kinda sad that it came to that, relieves me because I thought my truck was going to start some serious electrical problems with the wiring harnesses.. My next idea was a bad ground somewhere and we know how much of a pain in the butt it is to locate a bad ground in a harness..
For those that read this I appreciate ya'll looking
