I was wondering if those of you that did this mod were happy with the results. I've read that the truck runs much smoother. But that's about all I read. I didn't find much when I did a search. Are there any drawbacks? Thanks!
The only real drawback is that there is only one source for the thermostat, so if it were to fail in the middle of nowhere you would have to switch back to a 195*. The cheesy, stamped steel thermostat housing can also be a PITA to seal, but you'll run into that anyways.
The truck does idle a little differently, a bit less "clacky", and it did seem to get a little peppier with the hotter 'stat. Milage is basically unchanged.
I also did the Evans NPG+ at the same time as the thermostat, so I don't know for sure what made the real difference, but yes, I'm happy with it.
Coolant filter set up form Bob Riley @ the dieseSite is a high quality product. I installed the coolant filter on my "02" and drove it a month and replaced the filter. Cut the filter open and you wouldn't believe the sand and crap floating around in your coolant! Nasty stuff!!
The instructions say to mount the head on your air intake horn. Didin't want to do that so I installed mine on the drip rail above the firewall on the drivers side. I've seen them mounted on the frame rail ansd other locations as well.
Thanks guys, i checked out Cookies old post and now my mind is made up.
One other question??
Can i get the same t-stat gasket as the old one?
Thanks in advance.
