I have a 1987 f-250 with 6.9l automatic. Runs very poorly under tow. We recently had new injectors put in and replaced the fuel filter. It runs better but I would like to get more power for towing. It probably has over 2k miles on it. Not sure because we cannot keep a speedo gear in the thing. Keeps wearing down the gear.
Anyhow, I need to be able to pull around 20k in weight and I'm not sure if I should just trade up or not.
If you need to pull 20K you need a Power Stroke. The 6.9 or the IDI 7.3 (with or without a turbo) will never be up to the task. Starting with the 2000 model year the manual transmission equipped Power Strokes are rated at 275 HP and 520 ft.lb. of torque.
Hi, if you have to pull that kind of weight trade up like the post above says I have a F250 with 6.9 4x4 it is only rated for 14,000 lbs. gcwr (gross combined weight rating) that includes the truck and my truck weighs 6,850 empty. John
