Well, we got a 90' F250 7.3 with 4x4 about 2 weeks ago now. We expected to put a little work into her but we didn't expect this much. We had to put a new wire harness in which was $600.00 then we replaced all the filters (fuel, air, oil and will replace the trans. soon). We bought a new power steering pump (have to install it but hubby can do that) and we just replaced all the fuses thinking that one was out because the blinkers were not working correctly. Take it in this morning because fuses didn't help it and the switch needs to be replaced ($200.00). Have them check the truck out while its there because it's been blowing whitish gray smoke...find out its the injector line which is going to cost another $200 on top of that. We paid $3000 for the truck and like I said we expected to put a little work and money into it but my gosh. We were hoping to put that money into a newer bumper and an 5th wheel air gate...so much for that. Cosmetically this truck is in excellent condition. No rust etc. Bed of course it banged up but that's to be expected. Just a bit frustrated as the guy we bought it from didn't have one problem with it(he had actually only had it a couple weeks prior to us getting it). The guy he had bought it from is the one who had done the bad job of trying to fix it which is what happened with the wiring harness.
So did we get screwed? Honestly? Ill try to attach a couple pictures here let you see what we have. Sorry its blurry. Couldn't get the scanner to work so this is a picture of a picture.
Yea we have no A/C either(forgot to mention). Needs a new manafold and line plus the V-10(thinks that's the old antifreeze). Were going to get it fixed (Around $400) but its been put on the back burner for awhile lol! As far as I know the coolant is fine. It drives great other then this. We specifically bought it because every time we test drove it, the thing started up first crank of the key(and other then when the wire harness went wacky on us day 2 of owning it, its always cranked right up). Hubby works on gas engines (he was actually going to mechanic school before joining the Army) but this is our first diesel so we bought a Hayes to make sure we can try to do alot of the work ourselves(like the steering pump). Would anyone recommend any other sites for help working on these trucks?
I think you got a good deal on your truck for only $3000. I've been looking for an 7.3l engine and used motors with 140,000 miles start at $2000. So only $3000 for the whole truck sounds like a heck of a good deal. Just go down to your local Ford dealer and price a new one.
