Chime diagnosis

Want to know how to diagnosis intermittent chiming in my 1999 E-150 conversion van. Do not want to disconnect chime completely. Not sure if it's the door, seat belt, or whatever. Not even sure what all the functions are that cause chime to ring. Tried pulling fuses until chiming stopped but interior lights also went out. Need some one real knowledgable about chime system. Chime will sound about every 30 or 40 minutes on a long trip, for no obvious reason. All belts are buckled, and all doors closed. There also is no indicator light blinking on the dash when the chime sounds, but they all do light up when first starting the engine so it's not the indicator light bulbs. I found the chime near the radio. It has a connector with about a dozen different wires going into it. I could probably silence it by breaking the chimer or muffling it somehow but would rather isolate or fix the problem.

Thanks a lot,
Geo.

Sounds to me like your ignition tumbler (the part the key goes into) is coming apart. They seperate quite frequently and will cause that buzzer to go off. It's a pain in the butt for sure..... Next time it happens pull the key out, and try turning the metal tabs, I'll bet it moves pretty easy and when in the right position will stop the chime. The good news is that most auto parts store sell replacements for about 20 bucks.
