Bad Transmission?
96 Ford Ranger, 2WD, 3L, Automatic
Symptoms:
1. Sometimes when I put it into gear nothing happens. Engine revs but no go juice! It's like it is still in park.
2. Most of the time it goes into gear just fine. I can drive long distances with no problem.
3. Once, when I put it in reverse, it had very little power and when I stomped the pedal the engine seemed not to rev but actually bog. A moment later it worked fine (I put it in park a few times).
4. As I recall, the "Not in O/D" light tends to lightup when it has a problem.
5. I debated wheather to add this, but it seems to happen mostly when I'm on a hill. But it has happened while the truck is sitting flat also.
Fixes Tried:
1. I checked the shifter alignment and it is lined up perfectly with the transmission. When I put the column in O-Drive it is perfectly aligned at the transmission.
Question:
1. So, I guess I already know the tranny is bad. But, I thought I'd ask here to see if there is anything else I might check before I take it in to a shop. Any ideas?
2. How much would a used transmission cost for a Ranger 3L with an automatic?
3. How much is a good rebuild at a shop?
Thanks for any info..........Sam
