I took out my rear drieshaft last week to change a u joint, I never marked its position prior to its removable, And i put it back in, but havent experienced any problems. Why does it matter?
I also need to get it balanced, shes got a wobble in er'. Im looking for a place to take it, wondering if places like kal tire or midas do it??
Ill find tomorow i guess.
Oh, i also took out my front shaft today to change another u joint. Also unmarked, its not back in yet tho.
Try any local axle/driveline service shop. Balancing isn't expensive as long as you dont end up needing major work, like a re-tube or a rebuilt Cardan joint. On the u-joint marking, as long as all the u-joint crosses in the driveshaft line up with eachother, you should be fine. Lining up the crosses keeps the shaft 'in-phase' and from wobbling. As long as you don't split the shaft at the center yoke, you shouldn't have crosses not lining up. When installing a new u-joint, typically you can put it in any position within the yoke. When re-installing a used joint, you should put it back the way you took it out because of unequal wear within each cup.
I put everything back the same way it came out...if so..it shouldn't need to be re-balanced after....that wobble is probably because you have the shaft out of phase or off balance now.
Ok, The driveshaft wobble was there before i ever touched the driveshaft, Im unaware if it still wobbles since ive replaced the u joint. Ill get a buddy to check it out.
thanks for the replys
