Need more power

Hey, I have a 1999 F-350 Powerstroke, with a 6-speed. I would like to get more power out of it, but do not want to spend a whole lot of money. What is the best way to go about getting it? When it's floored the boost reads about 19 - 20 pis at 1,200 egt. Is there anyting I can do in the garage under the hood to give it more, or do I have to start buying a chip, exhaust, intake and more?

Best way to gradually add power and conserve $$$$$.
Go with a micro tuner, I have the SCMT, unbelievable power addition.
Next was guages, since I tow a trailer for fun.
Next go with exhaust and/or intercooler.
That will increase the performance to better than respectable levels.

Thumbs up

If you want some addtional power fairly cheap. I just put a 5" exhaust from 3"DP back. Napa auto parts 10ft aluminized plus 2 reducers. 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 plus 3 clamps under $130. I added about 25HP. Plus it sounds great. If you want more go propane. $600+ but, 100+ HP. Next on my list.

There's a lot of different things you can do. First thing I would do is go with a different air intake setup, get rid of the stock box because it is way too restrictive. There are a lot of options, Tymar, K&N, AIS, do a search on any of those and you will get some great information on all of them. This will help get more air to your engine, as the stock box tends to be restrictive and is known not to seal very well.
Get a bigger/better flowing exhaust, you should already have a 3" downpipe with the '99, that's what mine is, and it goes to 3.5" the rest of the way, stock. I took out both the cat and muffler and put a turn down tip on it, looks sweet and sounds awesome!! This will help keep your EGT's down.
Sounds like you already have gauges, which is good.
After all that, start looking at power chips, Diablo and SCMT are some of the common ones. Lots of options there. When you put a chip in, you definitely want gauges, boost, tranny temp and EGT, so you know what is going on with your truck and so you don't burn anything up. Propane is a great power-adder, there was just a thread about it that has great discussion about what it does for the engine.
Hopefully that helps you out some.

Since you are already reading 1200 EGT you should do the exhaust and intake mods first. Before you up the power too much remember that you have a stock flywheel and clutch. If you decide to really add a lot of power you might consider upgrading to a LuK ceramic. I'll second the additional advice that farmb0y gave.

First thing is you have to get that motor breathen better if you are already pushing 1200 degrees of egt. First thing is to add a high flow cold air intake system to get fresh air in, next you need to get it out as quick as possible. If it was me and I was seriously planning to modify I would go with a 4" downpipe and a 5" exhaust from thier leaving the muffler in the box or maybe even dual 5" stacks. Then I would start looking into chips, new garrett ball bearing turbo, or even H2E turbo, hypermax performance intercooler, pusher pump and upgraded fueling system, head studs and a dual disc southbend clutch with the upgraded 1,3/8" input shaft. Of course if you really want to get crazy it can be done with custom built engines and twins etc. So whatcha think, ready to be bit by the diesel hp bug because once you start you can't stop it an addiction!
Until then keep the rubber side down and I'm out!
