I know somebody here has upgraded their system in a F-250 or F-350 crew cab. Is it possible to put speakers alog with subs and an amp behind the rear seat? If they have how well is the quality, does the seat factor any with the sound, does it muffle it?? Would it be a waste to mount them behind the rear seat, would it only blare loud behind you? Sorry for so many questions here, but im just trying to see if anyones done anything like this.
Here is a picture of my truck under construction. http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/612705
I have the 3 JL 10w6's behind the seat and they are to much. Sounds good and all, but the bass is a little over the top for me.
My 2004 Screw (with Flex rear seat) handles a ported sub enclosure with a 10" Memphis Audio sub and twin Rockford Amps. There are pictures in my gallery. My rear channel speakers are Kenwood KFC-P605ie components (separate tweeters and mids). The rear tweeters are mounted about 'ear height' and the mids are in the stock locations.
I easily fit two 10" Image Dynamics subs behind the seat of my F250 Crew Cab. I installed the amps under the rear seat. Check my gallery for a pic of my box.
Nice looking sub box. The problem with the 04 Sduty is the rear Flexfold seat. It has a metal grate under it, limiting the space available for Amplifiers. The bottom of the seat folds up against the back and the metal grate unfolds towards the front seats. It's a cool storage space, but a bummer for Amps.
Bear6522, Where did you mount the tweeter at? I keep thinking about putting them right above the seat belt, by haven't decided. If they are behind the belt, is it making any difference?
My front tweeters are in the windshield pillars just below the grab bar. The rear tweeters are located about 'ear' height in the rear side panels. Just having a tweeter at that location makes a world of difference in 'sound staging'
Got 2 12's behind my seat and 2 RF amps under the seat. The install was effortless and the sound is amazing. I put 6.5's in all 4 stock locations and did add dynamat to all 4 doors and doubled it on the rear panel. As far as space, I did move my rear seat up 1" to allow for the depth of the subs. I would not hesitate to do the same install again. If I had went with 10's I would have had enough room for 3. I did not see what model your trucks is as mine is a 02.
I used some plastic panels to customize the 'stretch to the existing speaker enclosures. It was only about 3 or 4 inches for each speaker. I wanted the entire speaker mounted as opposed to only the lower portion in the speaker mounting area. Since the tweeters were high mounted this allowed these four midrange speakers to 'fill' from any of their four placement points. Dynamat on the doors covered all the plastic areas from view. I also used some dark tape to mask the area from the factory speaker grill, so you don't see the dynamat.
I used 3 bolts instead of 4 and used dynamat to cover the surrounding area. They even sounded w/out the mat. I've always been told that round sounds better and there were alot more 6.5's to pick from.
