need input on vehicle purchase

I'm going to look at a 1994 f150 XLT 4x4 with a 100,000 miles on it, 351 3spd auto with push button overdrive, the fellows is the second owner, he's pulled his holiday trailer with it, at present he's getting the rear end fixed, says one test driver told him it was noisy, tells me nothing else on the drive train has been touched, should I be leary of this truck, how do theses trannys stand up?any advice positive or negitive would be greatly appreciated

As far as I know 3sp autos have no overdrive but he mite have added a
OD unit, If it has a C6 3sp tranny there hard to bust and just check the fluids
etc hope this halps.

That truck has the 3 speed auto with O/D it is the e4od or the 4r100 not sure when they started using the 4r100 they are essentially the same tranny though. How long did he pull the trailer? These trannys have problems from time to time. They are a decent tranny if they are taken care of. I have seen some go for 2-300,000K miles but then I have seen some go for 30K They are weird like that. I have the e4od that has been rebuilt 5 times in 325K miles. My buddy has one that has never been rebuilt and has 165K on it. Like I said they are weird like that. The motor in the truck you are looking at is a great motor very strong. Wish I had a 351 instead of 302. If he has not pulled the trailer a whole lot or fast it should last a while for you if the price is right. Well good luck I hope this helps some.

I own one of these bad boys. it's an electronic transmission, never skips a beat. smooth as silk. no worries here. it's a 4 speed, but if you wanna get technical, it's a 3 speed w/OD.
