Wicked Wheel Install

Just put in my Wicked Wheel. Pretty tough job, but not too messy. Really not that difficult.
Then comes the test drive.

Very disappointed. Yeah, it has a pretty cool sound, but nothing else. Did not gain anything in the low end, lost some if nothing else. I have a 4" DP, which is why I installed it in the first place. (was under the impression it helped low end) Max boost dropped from about 20 to around 16 (big difference!). Haven't pulled the trailer yet to see if it helped by turbo surge.

I will run it for a bit, not anxious to get the original one back in (yet) (still sore from the install) and see if anything changes. At least the second time around will be a bit easier.
By the way, good job to the guys at Dieselsite.com, had some good accurate instructions with the wheel.

If I go the week and still not pleased, anyone interested in a slightly used wheel for $40?

If you read the fine print about the whicked wheel - the only thing it is supposed to do is take care of trubo surge - that's it!! They specifially say it is NOT a performance mod. I put one in a few months ago and found basically what you did - I was pretty much disappointed for all the work I did to get it in there!! I did not loose any boost though - make sure that everything is put back together tight and you're not leaking boost somewhere!! Mine did take care of the turbo surge, and gave me a new turbo whine - but that's about it.

Lariat bob,

Your WW will help signifantly while towing to get rid of the surge. Your boost should run about the same. Also the WW is better impeller as it hold up better to higher rpms.

By the way keep an eye out for oil leaks for the next week or so. I and a few others have had pedistal leaks after the install and we didn't even remove the pedistal. but, when moving the turbo around to put it back it sometimes will break the o-rings loose and you will lose the seal hence a leak.

Ok, Thanks

Ok, thanks, guys. I guess I will give it some time and see how it tows. I will check for boost and oil leaks. I did get some new o-rings from Ford, so I hope the pedestal sealed good.
I saw somewhere a device to make where you can pressurize your system to check for leaks, guess I had better try it. Would be cool if I could get my boost top end back up, cause I did like the way it sounded.

If not, out with the new, in with the old, maybe go down the chip lane.....

Oh, by the way, Happy Memorial day, Bless our Fallen!!!!

I think part (or all) of the reason you have lost some boost is because you don't have a chip. You have an open intake, a wheel, and a big exhaust, so you have plenty of airflow to support some power....but no fuel to make use of it. I doubt there is a load heavy enough to make your turbo surge in it's current state....EGT's will never be a problem either.

I like the Wicked Wheel, but it is hard to keep the spokes clean. I think for now on- I will stick to the stock rims. Hehehehehehe
