400w 4way amp problem with thudding ??
I have recentry been trying to install a dvd & amp system into my 84 Bronco.
I have the head unit wired up fine, and the amp switches on when the signal comes from the head, but when the amp is on, there is a constant dum-dum-dum-dum-dum noise which only goes away when I turn the volume up loud. I have tried inline car noise filters, but they make no difference. the head unit is not powerful enough to put noise through the speakers on its own... and I've tried the amp in a friends car and it works fine.
I've run a line straight from the battery +ive terminal to the amp, and a line straight from a grounded metal pillar, and I've tried with the filter in, and out, and still it makes this thudding noise whenever it is on and connected to the head unit. I've grabbed some crappy self-powered pc speakers and run the head unit's output into them, and there is no thudding.
please, can anyone shed some light on this situation?

I was grounding the amp too far away from the stereo head unit ground. this causes different ground signals to the amp and the head. now I've grounded them both together at the same point, the thudding is gone!
a very satisfactory result.
