Well I finally went out and bought a new truck, 2001 F350 PSD. I love it! THis is my first experience with a diesel and only have about 300 miles on it but all the same dont think I will ever go back to gas.Now one question. When siting at a light or parked wit the engine running, the fumes can run you out of t he truck..... or me at least. Even seems it gets bad when I crank on the heater. Is this normal?
When you drive a gasoline truck, you hate the smell of the diesel bus in front of you! Right! Now that you have been driving a diesel you will have to get used to it. I have been driving a diesel truck for about a year and now I hate the smell of a gasoline engine.
LOL. Thanks ford........ i guess I can assume your telling me thats normal?.... Dont mind the smell when i get out but dernnnnnnn going to take some getting used to inside...... thanks for your input
I had the same problem with my 1999 crew,4x4,psd. Points of elimination are, ensure the exhaust clamps on the turbo are tight, review exhaust system for cracks and/or loose clamps, weather seals on the lower edge of cab doors are intact. Check the foam seal between the heater box and air inlet at the top right side of the engine compartment. If the turbo is leaking exhaust, this is a good point of entry into the cab.
Let me know it works out.
You need to make sure you are smelling exhaust and not fuel. When I got my 2000 PSD I started noticing strong fuel smell especially near the front of the truck. When I had my spedo calibrated for bigger tires, I had FORD check it. Turns out there was a cracked fitting on the fuel filter housing and was leaking fuel. Since the fix hav not smelled fuel.
I have checked for a fuel leak and cant find anything. all is dry. Im sure its exhaust Im smelling, I will tighten up everything I can find under the hood this weekend see if that helps or I guess its back to Ford. Thanks for the input!

With the engine idling while parked, your
manual says you should crack some windows
about an inch and turn on your vent/blower.
(page 125 of your manual)
See page 121 of your manual - "If you smell
exhaust fumes inside your vehicle, have your
dealer inspect your vehicle immediately. Do
not drive if you smell exhaust fumes."
This is repeated on pg. 124.
Be safe and have the dealer check it out.
(read the manual too)
Huh, so it is bad for ya, i have been driving around for about a yr or so in my 7.3L smellin fumes all the time, just got used to it, maybe i should get it checked out, thanks for the info guys.
